ClassroomAfikei Torah offers a rich, multifaceted academic program including Tanach, Halacha and Hashkafa subjects.  While some classes are mandatory, we offer a large selection of elective courses.
The diverse program allows each student to construct a schedule of classes that best meets her needs and interest. The large faculty ensures that students receive close attention, and there is always someone available to shmooze with or ask advice.

One of our core courses is Binu BaMikra, a comprehensive study of Sefer BaMidbar covered in three sessions a week. After Davening the girls study in a supervised Chavrusa program followed by a Shiur. The course is taught on four levels in order to accommodate students with different textual skills.

Yam – Students are expected to prepare mefarshim independently. In class, the teacher will assume that you have thorough knowledge of the prepared material. The shiur focuses on careful textual analysis, derivation of ideas from within the text, and depth of understanding.

Mayim – This shiur will sharpen your proficiency in using Mefarshim. During preparation, you are provided with guiding questions and key vocabulary words to aid your comprehension and to develop your ability to study independently. The class is built on a thematic approach to concepts within Sefer BaMidbar.

Nachal – This level is for a student who would like to be able to study chumash independently. Students are taught to approach the text systematically and are given the resources to decipher mefarshim. The shiur develops ideas showing how they emerge from careful reading and understanding of the text.

Negev – In this class, basic skills of reading, translating, and understanding are enhanced to proficiency. Students are often astounded by the progress that they make through the year. Tutors are available to assist with preparation and to help build skills.

In addition to the regular academic program we host a weekly guest speakers and run periodic Yemei Iyun exposing our students to the best of Yerushalayim’s educators.

studyingShana Bet
The first year of study at Afikei Torah opens new vistas of Torah to our students.  Through their learning they investigate and clarify ideas and outlooks while shaping their own goals and aspirations.  Life skills develop alongside textual skills and foundations are laid for the future.  Many of our students opt to remain at Afikei Torah for a second year. The second year program offers a wide array of classes on an advanced level.  One of the highlights of our Shana Bet program are “Chaburos” – in which our students are taught how to be effective public speakers. Students choose and research a topic which they then present.  This program encourages our second year students to study on their own and also prepares them to share their Torah knowledge with others. In teaching, giving a Shiur or delivering a Devar Torah, this training has proved invaluable for our graduates.
